Mission Progress To Date:

The Bell 430 crew left Magadan, Russia this morning in good spirits - declaring that there were no more arctic, mountains, or long overwater between them and Farnborough. Today they flew 1,091 nautical miles. So far, the crew has flown 16,254 nautical miles, with 4294 nautical miles to go.

In-Flight Report - August 30, 1996 - Day 14

Off Magadan at 8:20 local time. Fighting coastal fog on sea of Okhotsk. Creeping down coastline. Sorry about ELT. Something hit the button in all the confusion at Provedenyia. We apologize for any concern this caused, but we're glad the system works. Hope it didn't cause a problem or a scare. Will advise off okhotsk for Yukutsk. Thanks. Glad you are there. Regards, Ron Bower and John Williams, Crew of the N430Q
WebMaster's Note: The Bell 430 is equipped with a powerful ELT (Emergency Location Transmitter) that is designed to kick on when the aircraft has a hard landing. It can also be turned on with a switch on the instrument panel. Apparently, one of the Russian officials poking around the helicopter inadvertantly turned on the ELT, and we got some interesting phone calls from the United States Air Force in Anchorange, Alaska as a result of it.
