U.S.A. Mission Progress To Date:
The Bell 430 Flight Around-the-World continued successfully through the western United
States. Starting out at Salt Lake City, the crew made stops at Las Vegas, Phoenix,
Burbank, Sacramento, and Medford on the way to an overnight stop in Seattle. It was a busy
day with many friends and media along the way. The aircraft is working well. With the
weather good and the aircraft on autopilot, the crew had time to send a lot of messages,
some of which you can read below. So far the crew has flown 12,081 nautical miles (almost
two thirds of the way!) with 8,467 nautical miles to go.

In-Flight Report - August 24, 1996 - Day 8, Number 4
Took off from Sacramento at 6:40PM PDST. Enroute to Medford, Oregon ETA 8:25 PM PDST. The
local NBC station and guys from NASA met us in Sacramento. I napped on that leg and John
is sleeping now. The bunk is really useful. Premier did a great design job and Aeristo
provided terrific materials. The sheepskin makes us go to sleep in minutes. The smooth
ride of the Bell 430 works great. We wear earplugs and a great mask named mindfold. It has
about 3/4 in of foam and big holes for your eyes which let you blink with rubbing your
eyelids. The airconditioning sometimes requires us to use a space blanket. We are doing
well. We will be back on schedule upon arrival in Seattle. We have tonight in Seattle,
tomorrow night in Anchorage, then off to Russia. I really appreciate the great support,
even on weekend that everyone has shown. Rogerson Kratos had a number of people at the
Pasadena Police Department Heliport. It was good to see that the Bell 206B JetRanger that
Austin Jet sold them 11 years ago is still looking good. It now has 7000 flight hours. All
for now. Looking forward to seeing Dennis Burns in Seattle. Still estimating Seattle
arrival between 11 and 11:30 pm. Bye for now. All is well. Glad you are there. Regards,
Ron and Nappy John-John, Crew of the N430QA
